The Sino-Soviet split was theater for western consumption and Putin and Xi have made it abundantly clear that they have each other’s back. As long as Putin remains at war, Xi is unable to carry out any military campaigns of his own. If Xi “decides” to come to Putin’s defense, then we’re faced with the old East v West showdown. Xi will be free to take Taiwan after he closes the Panama Canal, isolating our navy in the Pacific, while our East coast is open to attack from Cuba, the Bahamas and deep water rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.
China has enough on its plate controlling its own territory and 1.4 billion population and obtaining the resources it needs. They are not going to take Taiwan by force unless provoked by the US setting up bases on Taiwan and Taiwan declaring independence, and he is not about to provoke the US by closing the Panama Canal
I'll opt for Occam's Razor: elite units have always had differences with HQ. Prigozhin has had it with 'plowing fields with artillery' when his men are going short of munitions.

One simple possibility might be in line with the article's most likely conclusion. I will do my best to summarize it as succinctly as possible below...
The root cause enemy of humanity wins because it has captured most or all governments and organizations world wide and installed carefully vetted, monitored, and controlled puppets in leadership roles of those organizations. These leaders are gifted with significant positive and negative reinforcement and are actors, acting out the scripts given to them by the enemy. This over arching explanation can be used to analyze anything that is happening today. The enemy excels at creating and executing complex scripts that get us to focus on other things like the personalities of the puppet leaders it installs and controls. Given this simple analytical method, what you have suggested as the most likely explanation of the situation, and several other possibilities, are easy to model.
The only solution to this situation that we have discovered in Solution Seeking so far is world wide military mutinies and replacement of the current leaders with leadership that is completely transparent to all citizens, with all decisions openly disclosed, where everything done can be completely audited by all. Failing that, we are at the mercy of our root cause enemy, and the scripts it writes for its puppet leader actors.

I don't disagree. Evil will always present Evil as a solution, carefully packaged to disguise it as Good. Most people choose to follow and not think, which is a perfect environment for Evil to flourish
