As we complete the 3rd year of Russias Forever War against Ukraine , over what I consider legitimate security concerns given Ukraine was a NATO sockpuppet used to provoke and threaten Russia and ethnic Russians in Ukraine, we see that Russia has conquered territory that is only about the size of West Virginia.
That conquest has come at the cost of hundreds of thousands dead and wounded and many hundreds of billions of dollars spent, not to mention sanctions and trade disruption and seizure of assets in foreign banks ( EU, USA, Japan, and Canada froze approximately $300 billion in Russian sovereign assets ). So the idea that Putin would have any appetite for conquering the rest of Europe seems quite silly. Especially if Europe could show itself to be a willing trade partner.
The US seems to think it is entitled to $500 billion Ukraine mineral deposits and other goodies for the $88 billion in Aid delivered (contrast with $183 billion Congress authorized, $44 billion obligated but not delivered, $51 billion not yet committed). Many of those minerals are in Russian hands and much of the rest is likely privately owned. Europe and member states have collectively provided Ukraine with $125 billion in Aid.

Granted, US made weapons are the bulk of the military aid for Europe and US, meaning profits for our defense companies, but production cant keep up with demand.
Furthermore, besides Crimea Russia has claimed ownership of 4 oblasts of Ukraine but has not yet taken possession of 24,790 sq km (they have taken 68,500 sq km since the war began and in total hold 111,080 sq km). Russia will certainly demand this territory as part of any deal.
The US also seems to think they can work a deal with Russia that will involve Ukraine losing significant territory to Russia as well as their own mineral resources to US in exchange for a security guarantee that includes up to 120,000 or more troops in Ukraine for European NATO members and US allies .
Beyond Europes justifiable reluctance how do you think Russia feels about that?. Russia went to war in part to keep NATO out of Ukraine and you expect he agrees to 120,000 troops in Ukraine while Ukraine and US/NATO rearm to fight another day?.
How in the world does Putin take that deal? It seems more likely that Putin would insist Ukraine be demilitarized with Russian troops to occupy Ukraine just as the US did in Germany after World War II, or at the very least UN Inspectors to ensure compliance. Of course, no way Ukraine accepts that.
They would also likely insist that the current government of Ukraine be exiled and replaced by a new one after new elections. One that is free of Banderites.
So its hard to see how a deal gets worked out. It seems more likely that Trump is using the idea of $500 billion in mineral resources as the bait to get Congress to spend more money on the War to beat Putin. Call the new aid loans with the minerals as collateral belonging to the new Sovereign Wealth Fund (along with Gaza) .
Of course, anything is possible in this crazy world.
It looks to be the US is attempting to do with Ukraine what Hitler did with Poland and cut a deal with Stalin (Putin) to divide it between the two and thus shutting out Europe/UK, at least economically. Hitler of course was only buying time to strike Stalin when the time was right. US might be contemplating the same. It does not seem possible though unless Putin is stupid or a traitor (he is not stupid).
Given the US under Trump has shown itself not to be very trustworthy, and indeed quite threatening, one can imagine Europe considering its options and thinking that aligning with Russia, China and BRICS may be a lesser Evil. An allied Europe, Russia and China would be a formidable beast. Of course, with most of Europes Elite with significant assets in US they would be unlikely to risk this. Also Europe has PDS (Putin Derangement Syndrome) worse than my TDS making it even more unlikely.
One thing that must be considered. In the past when faced with a belligerent US administration one could wait it out knowing change will come with another election cycle and a more favorable administration will reverse the deeds of the past. This may not be the case any longer. Appeasement might bring a worse outcome. History doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme.
So I don’t really know what to make of it all. There are many possibilities , some of which I mentioned. Maybe Putin has all along been a Fake Wrestling partner and the goal all along was to beat down Europe with high inflation caused by sanctions (forcing manufacturers to US) and to depopulate Ukraine with US and Russia splitting Ukraines resources and some additional territory for Russia to boot.
Thats probably too much for many to imagine, so let’s stick with the reality they are painting.
Russia gets X territory, US gets a lien on Ukraines resources and ports. Europe gets saddled with peace keeping in Ukraine and NATO is off the table while Zelensky must hold new elections and then walk off into the sunshine in Florida with his riches after he loses. All ends happily ever-after. Right?
Well, I doubt it. This has a bad whiff to it. Kind of like the Versailles treaty. US still wants Russia broken up into pieces. Now they get a chance to rearm and train Ukraines 18-25 year olds who were spared having to fight. 120,000 NATO and allied troops within Ukraine (non US but you know we will have CIA and military in there) , and they will be much closer to Russia.
Resentment by Ukrainians in Ukraine and elsewhere (we admitted almost 150,000 during Bidens term) could cause some unrest in US, EU and Ukraine
Looks to me like a ticking time bomb that will eventually lead to another war at some point. Russia better be ready because next time it may not be them that strikes first.
Also, with Ukraine and Russia put on a back burner the US will no doubt turn elsewhere. Iran and China, maybe Venezuela or even back to Afghanistan. The MIC must be kept fed.
End
Ps-One possibility I overlooked despite thinking about it earlier is Trump knows this deal gets rejected but he has already enticed his base and Congress with the idea continued funding for the War in Ukraine will provide $500 billion in dividends. He can paint Putins refusal to accept his good faith offer as proof he is a no good scoundrel and his faithful will eat it up like my dog devours pepperoni pizza and cheer the War on.
The Ukraine war has been a huge money laundering scheme by politicians and the Military Industrial Complex, their attorneys and lobbyists. Follow the money. It leads to politicians who have been amassing massive net worth by funneling tax paypayer money through elaborate back channels.
A Canadian guy here (Edmonton, Alberta). The overall geopolitical scene seems crazy, I agree. I'm with you on Trump ( I cannot trust him, .... he behaves akin to an Italian mob boss that makes deals in the privacy of the back pews at the local Roman Catholic Church, .... a 'good' church-going man, we are supposed to believe).
Anyways, you left out the one enduring geopolitical consistency, always there simmering in the background, and seemingly top dog as far as the various geopolitical mafiosos, go - the practitioners of the Greater Israel Zionist project. It (the human hubris of the geopolitical type) is about misplaced supremacism (i.e. - misplaced, because ontologically, there is no such thing, it's just a childish fantasy, this 'supremacism', of a thousand puerile stripes, to my mind). There is one kind of such misplaced geopolitical supremacism that make all the others look like the child's play, that it truly is, though. Where does this especially virulent brand of of geopolitical supremacism, this Zionism, come from, though? My intuition is that it is a deep psychological de-realization, shared among many many Jews, ..... akin to believing one exists in a life-long dream, surrounded by dream phantoms, that said dream-phantoms therefore do not share the same existential ontological quality, as such 'dreamer'. But here is the kicker on that: People like Carlos Castaneda (quite the glorious charlatan, it seems) at least noticed, and well pointed out, something strange about 'dreamers': The realm of the unknown, as conditioned by the infinite unknowable, creeps in by way of these 'dreaming' practices. As so, I expect things will soon get even stranger. We might even all perish. Of course, no one knows, one way or the other. We should tread, oh so carefully, humanity as a whole that is, right about now, by my reckoning. I am feeling some growing anxieties around all this: The 'dreamers' among us are allowing (inviting?) in some unknown (unknowable?) powers, big-time, now, to my mind. Utter nightmare may soon ensue.
